Diversifying our dairy farm: my experience

About Stefania Bennett

Stef was a practising solicitor until October 2020 when she finally quit law and invested her time fully on her husband’s family dairy farm. During a couple of periods of maternity leave, Stef had become more and more involved on the farm, including setting up and running a new local milk round during the first Covid lockdown. When returning to work after baby number 2, it was clear that life as a solicitor was no longer what Stef wanted, nor would it suit their family life around farming commitments, given the demands on her dairy farmer husband. Stef now manages the diversifications on the farm, including a glamping site, the milk round, and a farm café and events venue, leaving her husband free to focus on developing the 220 strong herd of pedigree Holsteins and develop a new beef enterprise too.

Farming is not easy these days, and dairy farming is a real struggle. To keep our fifth generation farm farming, we knew we needed to diversify. Cue Worcester Glamping in 2013, a milk round in 2020, and an ambitious farm café and events venue in July 2021. These diversifications all have one aim: to help us keep farming by giving us a direct source of sales with the general public.
